Mechanical Engineering – A Fundamental Discipline of Engineering!!!

Engineering came into existence for betterment of the society. Whatever huge difference we find in our lives, is purely due to technological intervention. Round the clock we have been using engineered products and services for ease of life. There are multiple disciplines of engineering. Some of them are newly evolved & some are ancient. Ancient disciplines are civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Industrial revolution started in Britain in the early eighteenth century. Do you know what made it possible? It started with the invention of the steam engine and that is mechanical engineering at its best! In current scenario, whatever products we find around us are due to mechanical engineering.

Entire economy across the globe is driven by transport industry and automotive vehicles are the key. Vehicle design, development and delivery is done by mechanical engineers.  

The comfort we enjoy in our homes is due to availability of home appliances like fan, air conditioner, refrigerators, washing machine and many more such products. These products are designed, developed and produced by mechanical engineers.

Communication and entertainment devices we find in our use are fabricated by different manufacturing processes. Those are developed by mechanical engineers.

Farming is becoming more and more technology driven and substantial role is played by mechanical engineering. Farming equipments are designed by mechanical engineers.

We notice a lot of technological intervention in medical field. There are many biomedical devices and instruments used by medical professionals for betterment of patients. Majority of the responsibility for the development of these devices and instruments has been taken up by mechanical engineers.

Every product we use cannot be developed without basic principles of mechanical engineering.

Hence, we can say mechanical engineering is mother of all engineering disciplines.

Mechanical engineering was there in the past, it is there in the present and it will be there in the future…
